Is Anything Built To Last?

I wonder why everything decided to break this week. A recap of things that I have observed...who knows what I have yet to find?

-Tuesday night, leading to Wednesday morning, my radiator decided to crack, supposedly from wear and tear.
-Last weekend, my computer broke. I thought it was the power cord, so I bought a new one on ebay. Turns out that the internal part that connects the power cord to the battery broke, so I have to hold the cord in place to use the computer...and the connection is getting worse! I've now reverted to my circa 1997 laptop running on Windows 95. Great.
-Yesterday, I noticed that my VCR broke. The VCR will not eject the tape inside.
-Today, the antenna on my cell hone broke off. The plastic casing cracked, and the phone doesn't work unless I hold the metal part in place.

What's next? I tell you, my things and I are cursed around this time of year. Please send best wishes. Tomorrow I board a plane for Thailand. Back to the land of amazing coconut shakes, fun cooking lessons, and friendly people!

A Crappy, Thankful Day

I'm thankful Wednesday is over.

It started with an early morning wake up. When my hair turned out well, I felt confident my day was promising. I was concerned about my car. The previous night, I noticed steam coming from the engine. It also seemed to have a weird smell to it, but I figured that it was just normal steam that occurs when the weather is cold. I started on my drive to an important client meeting, only to watch observe that my engine was steaming, and other engines were not. I grew concerned and called my autmotive engineering friend, Stephanie. Problem sounded like a coolant hose leak.

I watched my engine temperature gauge creep up, and I knew I had a problem. Thankfully, this happened when I could manuveur my way off of the freeway to spot appropriate for towing. Spent an hour waiting for AAA and calling various repair shops, while juggling calls from my coworkers who were advising me to ditch the car and catch a cab to our meeting.

Mark to the rescue. I happened to pull over a block from his house, and he generously let me borrow his car for my hellish day of driving. Thank goodness for amazing, generous, kind friends!

My radiator was cracked. Who in the world would make a radiator out of plastic? Mazda.... and apparently the BMW 5 series. Thank goodness I finally unloaded my Ford stock.

The rest of the day was a blur that basically went something like this: drive, speak, drive, teach, drive, MUNI, drive, ceramics, drive, home, eat while watching the Bachelor, sleep. During this period of time to give thanks, I reflect and am thankful that I resisted the temptation to push my car beyond its limits, thankful that the client was a little late so my being a little late was not noticed, thankful for repair shop recommendations, and thankful to have an amazing friend in Mark.
